Counselling and Therapy in Brighton

I am a fully qualified, BACP accredited counsellor and I currently have a practice in central  Brighton.

How I work

It’s difficult to choose the right counsellor, so the first session is an opportunity for you to meet me and see if you feel you can work with me.

I work integratively, and believe that the success of counselling is about the development of the relationship between myself and the people I work with.

I work on both a long term and short term basis with adults. I aim to use the counselling style and techniques best suited to each individual client and their particular problems or issues.

My overall approach develops an awareness of how your past is affecting your current life and the impact it is having. People decide to come to therapy for a variety of different reasons, each as individual as the person experiencing them. The management of difficult feelings, such as anger, anxiety, depression and bereavement can be experienced as overpowering, influencing the way we lead our lives and affecting everything we do. Relationship issues of all kinds, with loved ones, friends and even the relationship we have with ourselves can often be found to be a fundamental concern that first brings us to therapy. Whatever the reason, often it is the decision to deal with these problems directly that is the first step in making changes.

As an integrative counsellor with a humanistic core, I work creatively with the client collaborating with them on what needs to be focused on in order to overcome any issues or problems.  Sometimes this work can be challenging and honestly it might be painful.  Its the trust and safety that we develop that does make it doable, despite the difficulty.

I also work with Couples in facilitating and working out what might need to change in their relationship to make it a more successful connection.  Often its the communication between two people in an intimate relationship can be very activating and lead to a sense of not being understood or heard.   This is where I start in my couples work and then we work together.

Its at this point I have seen other counsellors say what their fields of interest or expertise are – I find that difficult because every issue really is different depending on the person with the issue.

I abide by the code of ethics laid down by the BACP, this includes regular supervision which monitors and supports the therapeutic work I do.
